These had lipolytic activity meaning they were causing fat cell breakdown when administered to rats. These rats were fed a high-fat diet and the fat cells found in the belly area were monitored.

This experiment was to test the effect on obesity. These rats were fed a high-fat diet that included raspberry ketone for 10 weeks total.

It became clear that, compared to lab controls, raspberry ketones reduced the amount of fat in the liver and visceral adipose (abdominal fat) tissues of these rats. In addition it significantly increased norepinephrine-induced lipolysis (the decomposition of fat cells) in some rat fat cells. this means it destroys the bodies current fat cells.

Other experiments that were conducted on fat cells in lab controlled in test tubes and petri dishes (vitro) showed even greater evidence of breakdown when compared to controls.

Higher levels of Adiponectin (protein used by the body to regulate metabolism) are associated with the use of raspberry ketones. In vitro studies fat cells were observed to have a higher secretion of adiponectin when compared to lab controls.
